Clue Mechanics & Visual Language
Host-A-Quiz uses a composable "Visual Language" to describe clues. Instead of rigid presets, every clue is a mix of three components: Mechanic, Input, and Scoring.
1. The Mechanic (Who Plays?)
First to Buzz
Standard buzzer race. The first player to ring in locks out the others.
Host Selection
(Solo) The Host picks one player to answer. Used for "Hot Seat" or "Daily Double" style clues.
Everyone Plays
All players participate at once. Best used with App Input.
2. The Input (How to Answer?)
Verbal
Players shout out the answer. No phone icon is shown (host submission). The Host marks them Correct/Wrong manually.
Text Input
Players type the answer on their phone. A phone icon indicates app submission; the Host can see answers and use "Auto-Judge".
Multiple Choice
Players select A/B/C/D. System auto-grades everyone instantly. Shown with a phone icon when submitted in-app.
Location
Players drop a pin on a map. Requires a target lat/lng for scoring. First submit is final. Shown with a phone icon.
3. The Scoring (Points)
Fixed Value
The clue is worth a static amount from the board (e.g. 100 points).
Wager
Players must bet points before the clue is revealed.
Scale (GeoGuessr)
Awards 0..Max based on distance to target. Tiles show Max points with a small arrow indicator.
4. Modifiers
Timer
Players have a limited time (e.g. 15s) to answer after the clue is revealed.
Sudden Death
"Bomb" Mode. If a player answers incorrectly, they are eliminated from the game.
